About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Lawyer to join our small community-oriented office, preferably with at least 3 years experience, including court experience with Province of British Columbia Small Claims Court and Supreme Court of British Columbia. The ideal candidate will possess strong commitment, analytical abilities, excellent people communication skills, and a commitment to delivering quality legal services to our clients. This position offers mentorship with an opportunity for growth to build a successful long-term practice. The successful candidate will work with senior counsel while also having the opportunity to build and manage increasingly complex files on their own. This role favours those with an independent entrepreneurial spirit who possess strong organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Knowledge of wills and estates, including drafting of all estate planning documents including trusts.
- Experience in residential and commercial real estate transactions.
- Experience with appointments such as Powers of Attorney and executorship.
- Knowledge of family law and its intricacies with wills and estates planning.
- Provide legal advice and guidance to clients in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and court filings.
- Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda and briefs.
- Represent clients in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and/or court proceedings as required.
- Manage files independently while meeting deadlines and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and external partners.
- Maintain up?to?date knowledge of relevant legislation, case law, and regulatory changes.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from an accredited Canadian Law School.
- Member in good standing with the Law Society of British Columbia.
- At least 3 years of post?call experience in a law firm environment.
- Experience in wills and estates, real estate, and corporate law.
- Mature work ethic and dedication to providing outstanding client-centered service.
- Initiative-taking and organized work style.
- Strong people skills and willingness to work collaboratively as a part of a dedicated team and to participate as a team member.
- Excellent client service and communication skills
- Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Excellent negotiation, advocacy, and problem?solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
